Senator tours Interurban site, sees potential

Washington State Senator Marko Liias (21st district, Democrat) is the latest elected official to tour the Interurban Trail site and view the potential for a safer crossing of SR 104. Liias, who was joined by Lynnwood mayor Christine Frizzell and Lynnwood city council member Julieta Altamirano-Crosby as well as Edmonds city staff, toured both the north and south sides of a potential route crossing of SR 104.

His visit came the same week as King County Council increased its proposed share of a necessary study to examine different route options to connect the Shoreline and Edmonds’ ends of the Interurban Trail.

As of late September, some $165,000 has been promised for a design study - the first step in pursuing state and federal grants for construction. King County ($75,000), Snohomish County ($50,000) and the City of Shoreline ($40,000) have agreed to a joint funding of the study. The promised funds from the counties and Shoreline are for their 2025 budgets.

North Sound Bicycle Advocates has approached Edmonds mayor, Mike Rosen, for Edmonds to lead the process of managing a contractor who would conduct the design study. This would entail soliciting bids from design consultants, reviewing proposals and then coordinating with the winning bidder to see the study through to completion. Edmonds has not yet committed to leading the effort.
